Concrete work continues, and steel arrivals are scheduled for the Outpatient Care West Campus construction site, located in the Innovation District.
Construction began in summer 2020, and recent progress highlights include:
The Ohio State University’s research and innovation enterprise is getting a major financial boost from Governor Mike DeWine and JobsOhio.
The Innovation District will receive a major share of a $100 million investment from JobsOhio, the state’s economic development group, into the central Ohio region, advancing the area’s health sciences and research space. Nationwide Children’s Hospital will also receive funding.
Signs of progress are visible on the construction site for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care West Campus. Located within the Innovation District, south of the Kenny and Carmack roads intersection, the 385,000 square foot cancer-focused facility will include central Ohio’s first proton therapy treatment facility in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center continues to expand its care with a new, large outpatient care facility planned for Hamilton Road and SR 161 in northeast Columbus. The site joins outpatient care expansion plans in Dublin and Powell. The comprehensive facilities are part of a new suburban outpatient care program that supports growth in the region and excellence in academic health care.
Columbus Business First recently wrote about a pair of projects set to seek full or partial construction approval from The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.
The Ohio State University Board of Trustees approved construction, and the remainder of funding for professional services, for its Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care Dublin and added partial approval for the Wexner Medical Center Outpatient Care West Campus.
Columbus Business First highlighted the construction projects to watch at Ohio State over the next decade, citing the university's projected five-year, $2.4 billion capital plan.
"The next 10 years are going to be a construction boom," said Mark Conselyea, Ohio State's associate vice president of facilities operations and development.
Columbus Business First reports that Ohio State has approved a $2.37 billion 5-year capital plan to support Framework 2.0 and the university's strategic plan. It is an historic number for Ohio State as the university delivers on major projects identified in the campus master plan.
As reported by the outlet, classroom and laboratory buildings make up 47% of the new projects, and 39% are for OSU Wexner Medical Center.
“That’s really a healthy balance,” said Jay Kasey, Ohio State's senior vice president in the Office of Administration and Planning.
The Ohio State University looks to advance three Wexner Medical Center ambulatory sites during upcoming Board of Trustees meetings.
