Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) celebrated the opening of a $100 million, 55,000 square foot proton therapy center on December 20, 2023. This is the first treatment facility in central Ohio offering a highly targeted form of radiation therapy for treatment of complex tumors that cannot be removed through surgery.

"There's a very palpable excitement from patients," said Grant McKinley, director of operations at the James. "They talk about this building as if it's their building too."
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) is one step closer to creating a cancer-free world with the opening of The James Outpatient Care. Located at Carmenton, the $356.5 million project includes outpatient operating rooms, interventional radiology rooms, extended recovery unit, pre-anesthesia center, a diagnostic imaging center, pharmacy, hematology clinic, genitourinary (GU) clinic, infusion and medical office and support spaces.
The James Outpatient Care is about 90% complete as crews continue their work on the 385,000 square foot cancer-focused facility. Crews are adding finishing touches to the first, second and third floors, preparing for building turnover in mid-April. The project includes outpatient operating rooms, interventional radiology rooms, extended recovery unit, pre-anesthesia center, a diagnostic imaging center, pharmacy, hematology clinic, genitourinary (GU) clinic, infusion and medical office and support spaces. The project also adds a 640-space James Outpatient Care parking garage.
The Ohio State University announced today that the university-affiliated Science and Technology Campus Corporation (SciTech) will collaborate with global real estate company Tishman Speyer to develop a master plan for Carmenton, the university’s innovation district.
Working from the bottom up, construction crews are making progress on The James Outpatient Care site located in the Carmenton innovation district. The eight-floor building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2023, along with the 640-space James Outpatient Care parking garage. A connected proton therapy center is also expected to open in fall 2023.

The Ohio State University has announced the new name of the growing innovation district on the university’s west campus: Carmenton.
