Construction on the Engineering Research and Education Laboratories building has reached substantial completion and a certificate of occupancy. Final fit-out work is underway across the building, including furniture installation, punch list and pack-punch activities, and a final cleaning. Landscaping is also being finalized.
As furniture is installed, durable lab casework constructed of metal materials, complemented by wood‑style drawer and door fronts, is being used in laboratories for equipment storage.
Life safety testing is completed. Which included full building shutdowns to ensure emergency systems, like generators and lighting, exit signs, fire alarm devices and fire suppression systems activate properly during a power outage. These final inspections were critical to ensuring the building meets all safety and operational standards.
Construction progress includes:
- Final furniture installation and interior fit-out across all floors
- Punch list and back-punch work nearing completion
- Final cleaning of all spaces in progress
- Landscaping and exterior site work being finalized
- Administrative, classroom, lab and collaboration spaces fully constructed and equipped
The project included the demolition of Watts Hall and renovates existing MacQuigg Hall. An addition will be constructed that will house research and teaching labs, collaboration spaces, offices and classroom space.
